New Products: ‘Band’ wraps up sound – USA TODAY
Your sound will always be within easy reach with bēm’s wireless Speaker Band. Designed to wrap around your wrist like a bracelet, the Bluetooth speaker gives you yet another way to share your music on the go. Although the band is heavier than your typical bracelet, it’s lighter than most speakers, making it relatively comfortable to wear. Simply wrap the soft band around your wrist and fasten its watch-like clasp. By using the square-shaped speaker’s controls and built-in microphone, you can adjust the volume, switch tracks and take incoming calls. Equipped with a built-in rechargeable battery, the speaker can deliver about six hours of talk time on one full charge. Available in white, black, red, blue, gray and green, it ships with a USB cord. Available to preorder for $50, it is expected to be available later this spring.
DEVICE THAT STOPS THE BARK
Tired of barking dogs—whether yours or your neighbors’? First Alert’s Bark Genie can help keep the peace and quiet. When the device detects barking, it emits an ultrasonic sound that is only heard by dogs and designed to halt nonstop barking. The device, which can be set at three sensitivity levels, can be carried with you on dog walks, attached to a fence or placed inside your home. It costs about $40.
BIG BANG CAN HANDLE THE FALL
Dubbed the Big Bang, Logitech’s protective case for the iPad promises to be as tough as its name implies. Built with a shock-proof and absorbent material, the case’s shell and cover can withstand drops from 1.4 meters, not to mention dropped objects that happen to land on it. Because people often ignore warnings to keep food and drinks away from tech devices, the front and back covers are made of liquid-repellent materials that can easily be wiped clean. When the iPad is in use, the case can be adjusted for five different viewing positions. A Big Bang case for the iPad Air costs $100; a case for the iPad Mini is $80. Both are expected to be available later this month.
CASE PACKS EXTRA ENERGY
Forgot to bring along the phone charger? What you need is a charger that travels with your phone. One handy option, the Prong PWR Case for the iPhone 5/5S, has a detachable 1500 mAh capacity battery with built-in retractable plugs for easy recharging. Once the back-up battery is charged, it can be reconnected to the back of the case, allowing you to recharge your phone on the go. The case also includes a Micro USB port, so you can also charge it via the included USB cord. Available in black, white, blue-gray and white-pink, the case can be preordered for $65. When it becomes available later this summer, it will cost about $80.
