AMD Shows Indies, 200-Series Graphics Cards The Love With New ‘Never … – Forbes

Ever since AMD debuted their Hawaii-based graphics cards last year, community and press alike have been hounding the company about their typically-compelling Never Settle Forever bundles. When would the program extend to R7 and R9-series cards? Would we see a healthy variety of new games for 2014? Today, your inquiries get mostly answered.

Never Settle Forever is a rewards program which allows gamers who purchase an AMD graphics card to redeem a code in exchange for a selection of free game downloads. Recently AMD injected more choice into the program by designing three tiers — Gold, Silver, and Bronze — and most importantly by allowing gamers to hold onto their code for a few months in the interest of cashing it in when newer games are released and offered through the program.

The biggest announcement from AMD is that the program finally arrives for newer R7 and R9 graphics cards (for example the Radeon 280, Radeon 290, and Radeon 295X2 which sees its official release today).

On the software side, AMD is bolstering their partnership with Square Enix by adding the upcoming detective thriller Murdered: Soul Suspect to the list of rewards, as well as Eidos Montreal‘s Thief.

“AMD and Square Enix have enjoyed a history of collaboration with past titles. That relationship remains strong as we work together on a rich assortment of optimized DirectX 11 effects for Murdered: Soul Suspect,” says Naoto Sugiyama, Executive Producer for the game. “This comprehensive effort will ensure that all PC gamers receive the definite experience they deserve.”

The program is also showing indie games the love with a collection of new bundles including Guacamelee!, The Banner Saga, and Mutant Blobs Attack. Each indie pack will contain two games, but only count as one choice in the redemption process.

Never Settle Forever also extends to non-game software, giving users 3 free months of Splashtop, and AMD’s own RamDisk software for $8.99.

Gamers can opt to wait until August 31st, 2014 to redeem their codes in the event AMD adds upcoming titles to the program. And hopefully they do. Last year we saw a number of high-profile releases offered for free by AMD quite close to their release date. For at least the first half of this year (with the exception of the Square Enix titles), the focus seems to be on somewhat older but classic titles as well as indies.

Still, Never Settle Forever continues to be a compelling choice offering incentives to potential AMD GPU buyers, and it’s nice to see AMD showing the indies — and their newer graphics cards — some love.
